Experiencing the Octavio
Posted by yakface on December 14, 2007
I thought it might be appropriate to share some of my thoughts on the VAF Octavio – even though I don’t really know a whole bunch about speakers/audio. A little while ago my Dad got a prototype Octavio from Mr Vafiadis. Since then I have been regularly borrowing it from him. Although I don’t own a Zune or iPod, I have been using the Octavio with my computer to play tunes. This could be due to my ignorance, but I was surprised by the pro sound that radiated forth from the little thing. Indeed it does fill our largeish back room with sound rather effortlessly, even when there are a few bodies in there too. My bloggingweb2 buddy Jacob (who has some more knowledge of speakers than myself) and I enjoyed cranking some beats – from the brootal/manic Mr Bungle to the smooth/broody Smiths – through it while contemplating our holiday work and it all sounded a treat, even when we turned the volume up real loud. I even tried using the Octavio as a monitor for some recording I did with pals (sorry dad :S) and it was just as good, probably better, than anything else I have used. So there you go! I have started looking around on forums (eg zunescene.com) and found that stuff said there that is often fairly consistent with my opinion.
Kind regards,
Jamie on behalf of VAF.
