The Octavio Visits the Beach

Posted by yakface on February 21, 2008

Hello everyone. Long time no post! Well I am getting back into it on a high note with a lovely happy snap of the Octavio. Jacob and I went for a bit of a trek down Jetty Road today and took some pictures. We decided to use photoshop to edit/improve the world around us to include the Octavio. Here is one example – see if you can spot the personal hifi companion by the shore!

Powermove: Powerjoust

Posted by yakface on January 24, 2008

Jacob and I have been working hard all day making a rap about Powermove. Powermove is a distribution company which distributes the Octavio in Australia. After giving them a call to see where the Octavio is stocked, we were inspired to make a rap about them. The style is very reminiscent of our friends the Funkadelic Fret Fathers (an Adelaide rap duo). Hope you enjoy it. Here it is.

Octavio Promotional Video

Posted by yakface on January 24, 2008

Greetings one and all. Jamie here, returned from the Middleton sun and shore. Jacob came home a bit earlier than me and remixed an Octavio interview to create a promotional video. The interview came from on10.com and was done by Duncan. This is Wholesale Meat Media’s first real media creation for VAF. The spectacularly corny new-age soundtrack was created by Jacob himself. Check it out on his blog, or on youtube. Please enjoy, and buy an Octavio as a result!

Be on the lookout for more media creations soon (eg podcast, themetunez)

Until then, my sincere regards.

Recording Terminus

Posted by yakface on January 7, 2008

Greets, all. Not so long ago Jacob and I recorded our friends’ band Terminus. For those of you who knew the mighty grunge band Sounds of Dentage – Terminus is the same singer and drummer, but with a different bass player. Anyway, the reason I’m posting about it is that we used the Octavio as a monitor. Jacob really did all of the recording work, but I managed to get some snaps from the day, including some of the Octavio in action. It was in action alright, but also tucked away quite conveniently.

To hear the recordings of Terminus (I would recommend a listen or two), go to their myspace.

Until next time, my sincere regards as always.

Movie night at Lachy’s pool – “Octavio Party”

Posted by yakface on December 23, 2007

Jacob and I tried out my Dad’s prototype Octavio in yet another setting last night. We took it to our friend Lachy’s place for an outdoor evening movie-watching event. Jacob’s family has an oldish projector that we used against a sheet in Lachy’s yard so that we could watch Ferris Bueller from the pool although it got a bit cold after a while. And as you may have guessed, the Octavio was the source of sound for the eve. I even dressed it up for the occasion in a white skin.
Its sound filled the yard most adequately over the noise of the pool… as the host himself said, it was “Octastic”. As the transporter of the Octavio I can vouch for the easy portability of the thing – it was most convenient and quick to set up too. So there you are, another Octavio adventure. To see some pictures of the evening, go to Jacob’s blog. I will keep y’all posted on any more exciting endevours that we might come up with.

Octavio Pics

Posted by yakface on December 21, 2007

Hey all, as you can see , Jacob and I gave the Octavio a bit of a photoshoot recently. Here are the pics:ocaviovcrnintendo.jpg

This is how I usually use the Octavio – it is connected to the computer (not in the shot) as well as a VCR/DVD player, and as evident here I have brought out the old N64 console to celebrate holidays. For those of you who are knew to the Octavio, it is the one on top of the other stuff.

In between doing work the other day, Jacob and I did some recording of our two-piece band called Well Meaning Shells (Go to www.wholesalemeatmusic.com to hear some of our tunes). To monitor sound we hooked the MOTU main outs up to the Octavio. Works a treat.

Here is me slammin’ out some huge dirty bass lines – through the Octavio while we recorded. I didn’t know if it was really safe to do this, but I guess so because it sounded nice and we only played it at a fairly low volume.

Until next time.
Regards

Octavio on Sunrise

Posted by yakface on December 17, 2007

My Dad just told Jacob and I about a comment he received on his blog this morning about the Octavio appearing on the popular morning TV show Sunrise. It seems that it was mentioned on the “Pete’s Gadgets” segment as an Australian-designed iPod accessory. It even gets a mention on the Sunrise website. Dad caught the end of the program, and saw the Octavio sitting in the background. Interestingly, Dave (lifekludger), who alerted Dad of this, actually did not know if the slim contraption sporting an iPod was indeed an Octavio. Looks like we better post some photos of my prototype Octavio real soon.

PS. If anyone happens to have any footage of the Pete’s Gadgets section, or saw the episode of Sunrise I would be interested to hear what they said.

Yours truly,

Experiencing the Octavio

Posted by yakface on December 14, 2007

I thought it might be appropriate to share some of my thoughts on the VAF Octavio – even though I don’t really know a whole bunch about speakers/audio. A little while ago my Dad got a prototype Octavio from Mr Vafiadis. Since then I have been regularly borrowing it from him. Although I don’t own a Zune or iPod, I have been using the Octavio with my computer to play tunes. This could be due to my ignorance, but I was surprised by the pro sound that radiated forth from the little thing. Indeed it does fill our largeish back room with sound rather effortlessly, even when there are a few bodies in there too. My bloggingweb2 buddy Jacob (who has some more knowledge of speakers than myself) and I enjoyed cranking some beats – from the brootal/manic Mr Bungle to the smooth/broody Smiths – through it while contemplating our holiday work and it all sounded a treat, even when we turned the volume up real loud. I even tried using the Octavio as a monitor for some recording I did with pals (sorry dad :S) and it was just as good, probably better, than anything else I have used. So there you go! I have started looking around on forums (eg zunescene.com) and found that stuff said there that is often fairly consistent with my opinion.

Kind regards,
Jamie on behalf of VAF.

I just found a nice review of the VAF Octavio from about a year ago on Gizmodo.com. It’s got some interesting comments and a bunch of snazzy pictures. Check it out here.

Posted by yakface on December 8, 2007

Greetings all. I am Jamie. I have just finished school. In order to gather funds in a new and interesting way, my pal Jacob [salamano] and I are doing some experimental blogcastweb2 kinda work for anyone who is willing to pay us. Our first patron is Mr Vaf from VAF speakers, an associate of my Dad’s from our hometown Adelaide. So here goes… wish us godspeed

Yours sincerely,
